Nanovox Equipment Resource Network

1. The Equipment Resource Network is an interactive database cataloguing tools/equipment/expertise to leverage the region's resources if people are able to access things they might otherwise be unaware of. Items colleges/universities include within the ERN can be noted as "Open-Use" (only researchers within the host college/university can access the equipment), "Closed-Use" (means the tool/equipment exists but the host's contact information is not publically available); "Fee for Service" (the host is prepared to either 'rent' the tool/equipment or provide a service via the tool/equipment); and "Collaborative Research Partner" (the host is willing/able to partner, leveraging his/her expertise and/or methodology as core to the collaborative research itself).

Colleges/Universities partnering with NanoVox and the ERN may also list tools/equipment they may be interested in transferring elsewhere. Similarly, others (schools/industry) may learn of tools/equipment available to be acquired.

Thank you very much for your time and support.

3. Does your campus already have a comprehensive listing of your advanced-materials research tools and equipment?

No.

Yes, but it's only for people within your campus community to reference

Yes, and we share that information with industry researchers

4. How would a comprehensive listing of your advanced-materials research tools/equipment/expertise benefit your college/university if others outside of your campus community were aware of your inventory?

External faculty and students would note the availability of tools/equipment/expertise (i.e. for current research or in advance of research grant applications, etc.)

Faculty expertise would be noted for possible inclusion in collaborative opportunities

Grad student candidates would be able to evaluate the college/university as a whole vs. what just their potential faculty researcher offers them

Industry could compare/contrast schools' ability to collaborate with them

5. Is there any other information your organization might like to collect if/when your tools/equipment/expertise are inventoried for the ERN?

ask faculty and/or center staff for safety information

names of donors who have provided equipment funding

ask them if they have any surplus tools/equipment that they might like to transfer from their area

Other

6. Based on what is shared here about the regional ERN concept, what are things about it that appeal to you?

Do you have any reservations about having your school's tools/equipment/expertise included in the ERN?

7. If NanoVox were including your school's tools/equipment/expertise within this regional resource, how would you suggest the information be collected?

NanoVox would provide the data collection tool to an administrator who would then distribute the collection tool to department heads, then to individual faculty/staff, etc.

NanoVox would be provided the names/contact information of all pertinent department chairs and would communicate directly with those individuals who would then request that faculty fill out the forms.

NanoVox would present the ERN to department chairs and discuss with them how they would like to facilitate the collection of the information.

8. The next questions are about how to communicate about the ERN:
When NanoVox approaches a college/university to introduce NanoVox, what is your advice about whom they should contact first?

Individual faculty

Department heads

Deans

Administrators such as VPs of Research

Research facility/center staff leaders

Tech Transfer professionals

    10. What do you see as the Number One Reason faculty would be willing to have their equipment included in the ERN?

Conversely, what do you see as the Number One Reason faculty would NOT want "their" equipment to be included in the ERN?
