Last year, on the 24th of April, the eight-storey Rana Plaza building collapsed in Dhaka, killing 1,130 garment factory workers. The building had been declared unsafe, but the managers had quotas to meet. Those investigating the rubble after the tragedy found clothing labels from Western (like Mango and Benetton) retailers in the ruins of the building, which had been home to a handful of factories operating with varying levels of safety and scrutiny.
