To set the stage, assume you are interested in buying a franchise operation. The question is this: Are you interested in THIS franchise?

EXPLANATION OF BUSINESS

BUSINESS DESCRIPTION : Two Women and a Hoe™ (TW&H) provides professional indoor/outdoor sustainable landscape design, installation, consultations and green garden maintenance by certified master gardeners and landscape designers.

Learn about the franchiser: Jan and TW&H (approximately 2 minutes)

BUSINESS MODEL: A sustainable business model will create value for my community, the environment, and my profitability, all at the same time.

  • I hire and train local people and support community groups by providing education and training.

  • All my landscape designs are created with the environment top-of-mind. Design features include rain barrels to keep rain water out of the sewer system and in the garden, native plants to limit the amount of water and fertilizer needed, and vegetable gardens to make productive use of the soil.

  • My profitability has significantly increased by adherence to these principles, and by developing lasting relationships with vendors, employees, and customers. Consistent brand image has worked. Our gardens are so unique that potential customers can say, “That is a TW&H garden!”

  • Start-up and operational best practices are documented and will be provided. Initial and on-going training are in place and will be available.

CURRENT FINANCIAL POSITION:

This needs to be one statement. Something like, initial start-up costs and first year revenue was xxx with a customer base of xxx. After seven years, customer base is xxx, revenue is xxx, x% growth.

COMPETITION: There is no direct competition in this market.

  • Local companies are not able to provide certified master gardener or landscape design employees, lack the understanding to create a truly sustainable garden, and do not provide the one-on-one relationship building that we do.

  • Quality to us means the right plant, in the right place, at the right time. (? Is that right?)

  • We do what we say and we do it well – period.

  • Indirect competition consists of large, impersonal landscape companies or extensions of lawn maintenance companies, and independent ‘weed pullers’.

  • Given the information you have, would you consider buying a TW&H franchise?
