You have been asked to participate in this research project studying programs and platforms used for instructional purposes and within instructional settings. The purpose of this study is to gather information about how students access instructional technology such as wikis, PowerPoint, email, Blackboard, etc., as well as what instructional technologies are being utilized in the First Year Writing Program Composition courses. You were selected to be a possible participant because you are enrolled in either ENGL 1301 or 1302 in the Spring, Summer 1, and Summer 2, semesters of 2011.

What will I be asked to do?
If you agree to participate in this study, you will be asked to complete a short, anonymous survey online. No personal or identifiable information will be collected. After the survey data has been collected you may be asked to volunteer for participation in a focus group. Focus group volunteers will be asked 5 short questions related to the information on the survey. Again, this process will remain anonymous and no connection between the information gathered and your identity will be collected. This study will take approximately 15 minutes to complete the survey and about the same length of time for the focus group questions (dependent on individual answers.)

What are the risks involved in this study?
