Impression Management in Online Dating Profiles Study Consent Form

You are requested to take part in a research study of what makes individuals more attractive in online dating profiles. Please review this form carefully and ask any questions you may have before agreeing to take part in the study.

What the study is about: The purpose of this study is to learn about what makes individuals appear more or less positively on social media sites and how those ideas are reflected on actual social media dating profiles.

What we will ask you to do: If you agree to be a part of this study, you may proceed with the survey electronically. The survey will include questions about what characteristics make a person’s profile and, in turn, that person more attractive than others. It will take about 5 to 10 minutes to complete.

Risks and benefits: Due to the nature of this survey, memories of negative dating and online dating experiences may be triggered. If needed, we encourage you to contact Dyson Wellness Center, located on campus, as they offer confidential medical and counseling services.
We believe that there are various potential benefits that can result from this study, including gaining new knowledge and information, and your input is immensely appreciated and valued.

Your answers will be confidential: The records of this study will be kept private. If we make any report public, we will not include any information that will make it possible to identify you. The survey format keeps your answers anonymous, so through this function, IP addresses will not be recorded. Research records and electronic data will be securely kept, and only the researchers involved will have access to those records.

Taking part is voluntary: Taking part in this study is completely voluntary. You may skip questions that you do not wish to answer. If you decide to take part, you are free to withdraw at any time during the survey process.

If you have questions: The researchers conducting this study are Amanda Strolia, Dominic Sciackitano, and Rebecca Radavich. Please ask any questions that you may have. If you have any questions later, you may contact Rebecca Radavich at [email protected]. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your rights as a subject in this study, you may contact the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at North Central or Dr. Emily Cramer, [email protected].

You should save this page to keep for your records.

Statement of Consent: I have read the information above and have received answers to any questions I asked. I consent to take part in the study.
