An examination of job satisfaction in nurses employed in the managed care setting

Introduction You are invited to participate in a research project being conducted by a Master’s student researcher, LaShawn Outlaw, BSN from Western Governors University. LaShawn Outlaw is conducting research to determine the factors associated with nurse job satisfaction in the insurance company employed nurse, specifically those in non-direct patient care roles?
Description of the project: The purpose of this independent study will be to assess overall job satisfaction in relation to telephonic based patient contact as well as other nurse predictors of job satisfaction in insurance company nurses employed in case management, disease management, and health line roles. It is the researcher’s belief that this study will identify factors contributing to job satisfaction in an often ignored group of nurses.
-This two week study will include a 24 question survey that is voluntary, anonymous that is hosted on QuestionPro.com
- It is anticipated that the survey will take less than 20 minutes to complete.
-The majority of the questions of the survey will include multiple choice questions, although some questions will be “yes”, “no” questions, and attitude scale type questions.
- For purposes of this study, factors including telephonic patient contact time, reported satisfaction with salary, work setting, and job related stress will be examined through the use a self-reported survey.
-A minium total of 125 nurses are requested to participate in this survey. The survey will close after two weeks.
-It is expected that respondents will complete all survey questions completely and to the best of their ability.
Benefits and Risks of this study: Benefits of this study include contributing to the overall knowledge of the researcher regarding job satisfaction factors in managed care employed nurses. It is anticipated that this study will provide a means for further research, on a larger scale, thereby contributing to the factors that make nurses happy in their roles and improve retention. Risks of this study are negligible. It is anticipated that risks to the participants are minimal. The survey is anonymous and voluntary and is not linked to continued employment at Cigna. It is requested that the study be completed during non-work hours.
Confidentiality: Participant confidentiality will be maintained, records will only be seen by the researcher, and all data that is reported will be aggregated. A final report of the results will be made available upon request to the research. The final aggregated results will be reported and shared with Cigna nursing management at the conclusion of the study. No participant identifiable information will be maintained or collected.
Voluntary participation and withdrawal: Participation in this survey is voluntary. Participation does not impact or affect employment with Cigna. Participants may withdraw from the survey at any time. Participant withdrawal from the survey will not affect nor impact employment with Cigna. Participants may request that their individual results be excluded from the final report within one week of completing the survey.
