Pressurized Infusion - Phaco Survey

Pressurized Infusion – Phaco Survey

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. We would like your input to help determine the importance of new features for our current platform upgrades as well as new features for our Next Generation Phaco platforms. The survey is focused on Pressurized Infusion (PI) and Intra-ocular Pressure (IOP) management and we ask that you complete the survey based on input you have received from the customers in your sales territory.

Background
Pressurized Infusion has been on the market for years primarily for vitrectomy. Recently, Alcon has marketed PI as the solution to chamber instability. All of our major competitors offer pressurized infusion. Most surgeons agree that Alcon’s Centurion Active Fluidics is more stable than the Infiniti Intrepid Fluidics. At the ASCRS Phaco Advisory Board meeting, surgeon attendees recommended that AMO should consider offering PI as an accessory to Signature and Intuitiv and any new generation console. It is important to realize that PI offers advantages and concerns. Post Occlusion Surge (POS) is not solved only on the irrigation side of the chamber-balance equation. Variable PI can increase the supply of irrigation fluid particularly with small lumen tips and sleeves. It can help manage the interference of IV pole with low ceilings.

Please complete all questions keeping your customer’s point of view in mind.

We would now like to ask some questions related to IOP Management / Pressure Measurement

There are many approaches to IOP management. Most recently, setting the IOP on the console has been marketed as standard of care. This indirect method of IOP management could be improved. A pressure transducer (PT) is a device that directly measures IOP. It can be used not only during phaco surgery but throughout the entire case to maintain constant IOP and reduce IOP fluctuations. Often a secondary source of BSS (chamber maintainer) can be added to this device to assure constant IOP.
