The University of California at Berkeley’s Institute of Transportation Studies Transportation Sustainability Research Center in collaboration with Rossmoor’s Transportation Services is seeking your input on the viability of an Electric Vehicle Carsharing service at Rossmoor.
TSRC has been involved in exploratory research with Rossmoor for several years. TSRC researchers are extremely grateful for the insightful dialogues and exchanges with Rossmoor residents over the last several years and we are pleased to continue the research with the enclosed survey.
As with all previous research and surveys that have been administered, your participation is completely voluntary. If you choose to participate and fill out the questionnaire, you are free skip any questions that you don’t want to answer. While there are no direct benefits to participating in the survey, we hope that the information we gather will shed light on Rossmoor residents’ interest in carsharing programs in general including those that utilize alternative energy sources- such as electricity.
In order to maintain anonymity and confidentiality of all participants, we ask that you not include any personal information such as your name, address or phone number. A survey number will be assigned and noted on the questionnaire once UC Berkeley researchers receive it.

Next, we have some questions about a proposed electric-vehicle Carsharing program at Rossmoor.
“Carsharing can be defined as repeated very short-term vehicle rentals. Typically, cars are rented by Carsharing users for a fraction of a day (i.e., a few hours or less). Every car is used by several drivers; each driver has exclusive access to the vehicle at a different time of the day, when they have made a reservation. Drivers will pick-up and return vehicles at shared-use lots (e.g., public transit stations and neighborhood parking lots). They are usually members of the Carsharing organizations and use vehicles repeatedly (e.g., every day, a few times per week). Fees are typically based on travel distance and time, and cover maintenance, insurance, registration, and fuel. The Carsharing organization organizes the service.”
The electric vehicles used would be the Nissan Leaf with a driving range of 100 miles and recharging time of four to eight hours.
