Seeking the Will of God together, 2011

Cherith’s vision: To be a Multiplying Church
Focus:
phase I Stepping up (to help Christians to be Disciples and Disciple-makers)
Phase II Stepping Out and multiply

Goals/targets:
1. four congregations
2. > 400 members
3. one daughter church

Here is the proposal: A brother has proposed to the church to acquire a residential property under a church- registered company. He would offer half of the cost of purchasing the property plus the monthly installments for the first two years. The church would then pay for the remaining amount by monthly installments. The duration and amount of the installment could be worked out accordingly, to suit the comfort level and budget of the church.

This proposal is time-sensitive.

The pastors and CC have discussed and shared their opinions on this matter, and have all agreed to first pray and seek the will of God concerning this matter. After praying and seeking the Lord, and hearing the feedback from members, a recommendation would then be presented to the church during the August bi-monthly meeting.

The pastors and CC invite you, as member, to pray along with us and to share with us your ideas, or concern.

Situation at hand: With thanksgiving in our hearts, we are now considering together : To buy the property or not ?

How often have you been praying concerning this matter?

Have you sought any counsel from matured Christians? What did they say?

Please pray before you answer these questions.

Part I - If we buy the property

Is the above situation dealt with in Scripture by specific command, general principle or biblical example? If yes, what is it?

It is a questionable practice? Explain (eg. Legal or not, moral or not, … etc)

What are some opportunities or possibilities if we buy?

Does it glorify God? Explain.

Will it promote spiritual growth; directly, indirectly or not?

How does buying the property help to achieve the goals of the church?

How will the decision to buy affect the church?

To achieve the church’s goals, the purchase of the property is:

Good to have

necessary to have

unnecessary to have

Part II – if we do not buy the property

Of course it will be status quo if we don’t buy the property. Will such decision have any impact in the short term, mid term or long term? (Think along the church’s vision)

What are some missed opportunities or forsaken possibilities if we don’t buy?

Part III Analyze the issue at hand

List the “pros and cons” objectively.

What can the property be used for within the legal limits if it is not for worship purpose?

Part IV. After praying and seeking God, here are my inputs:

1.Any specific passage(s) of Scriptures came to your mind as you seek God? Please share.

2.What do you think God might be saying to you as a member concerning this?

What do you think God might be saying tothe church concerning this?

Part V. What is “your take” on this matter?

Do you have peace about your answer? (If you do not have peace, continue to pray and seek the Lord, and go through the above steps again).
