Many residents complain about cut-through traffic within Forest Hills. (Cut-through traffic refers to nonresident drivers who use our neighborhood as a shortcut.) Speeding, ignoring stop signs and endangering our children are among these complaints.

Our Board of Directors is aware that an issue may exist and is committed to neutrality. To gauge whether the board should explore any options, we request that every resident fill out this brief survey. Not necessarily only one per household – but each resident (hard to believe, but sometimes household members disagree). For those without online access, a paper version will be announced in the December 2013 issue of The Columns newsletter.

The purpose of this survey is to get your feedback to help us determine: 1) the extent of the problem; 2) possible solutions, and; 3) next steps, such as asking the Department of Public Works (DPW) to collect traffic data on volume, speed, and time of day and week.

But first, we need to discover how you and others in the neighborhood feel. So that responses can be accurately tabulated, your contact information is imperative. However, NO personal data will be included in the results, which will be presented in the next issue of Columns.

On July 9, 2013 Jerrey Finnegan, chair of the Meridian-Kessler Infrastructure committee, presented some options during an informal infrastructure meeting that approximately forty Forest Hills residents attended. It outlined, among other things, potential for traffic calming/beautification “circles” at the (5) five-point intersections. Although typically traffic circles are designed to increase flow, the intent would be to slow traffic. (Circles, by definition, are round.) That proposal would use non-round “circles.”)

For more information about traffic circles mentioned below, please participate in our online forum.

THIS SURVEY WILL EXPIRE ON JANUARY 15, 2014.
