Chinese Women Cosmetics Market
The cosmetics and toiletries market in China continued to see vigorous growth in 2003, registering value growth of about 8% in current terms, with value sales reaching almost RMB50 billion.
This strong growth has been underpinned by robust economic growth in the country. Even though SARS broke out in early 2003, the economy in China is still estimated to have seen 8.5% growth in that year, the highest among all countries according to a report by the United Nations. Healthy economic development has led to rising living standards, resulting in increasing disposable incomes. Consumers are thus able to afford more toiletries and cosmetics products.
