Project Description

MOBILE HANDHELD DEVICES ON WORK-LIFE BALANCE

Project Abstract

Mobile handheld device use is changing the way business is conducted. It enables real-time wireless access at all times, allowing individuals to work anywhere at anytime. Ideally, an individual is able to take more control over their lives and maintain a better work-life balance. They can respond immediately and address many work-related matters outside of the office. This flexibility can lead to direct benefits in increased productivity and enhanced collaboration. It can also lead to greater expectations in an individual's availability and responsiveness. Gradually, the boundary between work and personal life disappears. As research indicates, individuals may tend to feel that work penetrates into their personal life beyond acceptable levels, creating a major challenge for these people in achieving a satisfactory work-life balance. This study is an attempt to better understand the relationship between employer-provided mobile handheld devices and an individual's work-life balance.
