Project Description

Global logistics management systems in SMEs

Project Abstract

Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) are changing; global operations were once the prerogative of large conglomerates but improved financial pressures and more reliable communications, transport and logistics have led to their increasing global presence. SMEs typically do not have the resources to have one central system that provides a common platform for all entities. Initially SMEs are so constrained into adopting a strategy that sees the installation of stand-alone systems in each discrete entity. This prompts the question as to how best a global SME can manage logistic activities across stand-alone systems potentially operating on diverse application platforms in different cultures, time zones, languages and base currencies.
