Project Description

The Cognitive Factors that affect the Transfer of Knowledge and Conceptual Change in Junior Chemical Engineering Students.

Project Abstract

The objective of my research is to analyze the cognitive mechanisms of conceptual change, the internal knowledge representations associated with knowledge transfer, and how student epistemological beliefs might prospectively influence the degree to which these two processes take place. Building on these lines of research is significant as it will elaborate current scholarly work that is aimed at a detailed understanding of students preconceived notions, how these notions get conceptualized, how this conceptualized knowledge gets transferred across learning content areas, and how these conceptualizations change over time.
