NGOs and Social Movements in the U.S. and Mexico, 1990-2007

This dissertation analyzes the relation between NGOs and social movement organizations in Oaxaca, Mexico, and in the SEIU service workers� union in the U.S. I compare how they imagined democracy, respectively, and how gender and ethnicity influenced their organizing projects.
