Project Description

Distance education in Science research

Project Abstract

Despite new technology and lab exercises designed for distance education, there are very few distance biology courses available through four-year universities and only a couple of courses that grant credit to science majors. Careers requiring a biology degree are growing at a rate of 10-20%. Encouraging students to study biology is one way to increase the number of qualified workers. Distance education is one way to reach more students, yet there are issues regarding the quality of distance science education. This study will collect the input of biology staff at universities in the Western U.S. in order to determine what can be done to improve and support distance biology education for science majors.
