The aim of the project is to research the use of interactive digital learning tools to aid the understanding of complex non-digital games. As an example of such a game, Subbuteo Table Football is being used.
The project aim is to discover if digital technology can be used as a learning tool to enhance the understanding of complex non-digital games. The intention is to create an interactive multimedia learning tool exemplifying rules, tips, tactics and providing advice for the game of table football (commonly known as Subbuteo®).
It takes around two weeks to gain competence of the rules and it's during this period that interest can easily be lost and the game discarded for being too complicated. Alternatively, interest will be retained. The player may spend many years perfecting the game, while being spurred on by the passion that surrounds those that play the sport and the satisfaction of competing against a human opponent. While Subbuteo® itself lacks the pick up and play' aspect of video games, this project will take advantage of the changing leisure pursuits of today's computer driven youth, by using a now familiar format to encourage experimentation with a traditional hands on' toy.
