Merge survey data

What is merge survey data?

Merge data in QuestionPro lets you combine responses from multiple surveys into a single survey for a single, aggregated view of your data. Questions are matched across surveys by structure, so responses from a source survey are copied into your current survey and can be analyzed together. The feature works only when the paired questions share the same format.

When you merge survey data, you choose the surveys whose responses you want to pull in, and QuestionPro maps the matching questions for you. In merge data 2.0, questions are auto-mapped the moment you select the surveys, and the survey ID of each source survey is stored under the external reference of the merged responses. That keeps your combined data traceable, so you always know where each response came from.

Example of merge data in your surveys

Consider a retail chain in the US that runs the same customer satisfaction survey across its regional stores. Each region collects responses in its own survey, but the analytics team needs one combined view to spot patterns. With merge data, they pull every regional survey into a single master survey and map the matching questions across them. The responses are aggregated into a single dataset, and each response retains its source survey ID. Now the team reports on the entire chain from a single place, without exporting and stitching spreadsheets by hand.

Merge survey data FAQ

Common questions about merging survey data in QuestionPro

What is merge data in QuestionPro?
Merge data is a QuestionPro feature that combines responses from multiple surveys into a single survey for a single aggregated view. It matches questions across surveys by their structure and copies responses from each source survey into your current one.
What is merge data 2.0?
Merge data 2.0 is the enhanced version of the QuestionPro merge and consolidate data feature. It auto-maps questions based on similar question structure as soon as you select the surveys, and it records each source survey ID under the external reference of the merged responses.
Can I merge data from any survey into my current one?
You can merge survey data only when the paired questions share the same format. For example, a single-select question with four answer options is copied into your current survey only if that survey also has a single-select question with four answer options.
Which question types does merge survey data support?
Merge data supports all standard question types plus several specialized ones. These include Net Promoter Score, Van Westendorp price sensitivity, HotSpot image testing, Community Recruitment, single and multi-tier lookup tables, budget scale, zip code, store locator, MaxDiff, and Custom Numeric Data / Smart Validator.
How do I know which survey a merged response came from?
You can trace the source of merged data two ways. In the classic consolidate flow, you save the source survey name to a custom variable, and in merge data 2.0, the source survey ID is automatically stored under the external reference for each response.
Is merge data 2.0 available on my account?
Merge data 2.0 is a beta feature currently available to a select number of users for testing. To request access, contact your QuestionPro Customer Success Representative.
Which license includes merge survey data?
Merge data is available with the QuestionPro Research Edition license. For details on what your plan includes, reach out to your account manager or QuestionPro support.
