Online surveys are only as valuable as the quality of the responses they collect. As automated bots become more sophisticated, protecting surveys from spam and fraudulent submissions is more important than ever.
To strengthen survey security while improving the respondent experience, QuestionPro has upgraded the CAPTCHA Question Type to support Google reCAPTCHA v3.
What’s New?
Previously, CAPTCHA validation relied on visible verification, requiring respondents to interact with a checkbox or complete an additional challenge before continuing with the survey.
With reCAPTCHA v3, verification happens intelligently in the background. Instead of interrupting respondents with manual challenges, Google’s risk analysis evaluates user behavior to determine whether the interaction is likely from a human or a bot. Legitimate respondents can continue seamlessly, while suspicious traffic is identified before it affects your survey data.
Why This Matters
Better respondent experience
The best security is often the one users don’t notice. Since reCAPTCHA v3 works behind the scenes, respondents experience fewer interruptions and can focus entirely on completing your survey.
Stronger protection against automated submissions
Modern bots continue to evolve, making traditional verification methods less effective over time. By leveraging Google’s behavioral risk analysis, reCAPTCHA v3 provides an additional layer of protection against automated submissions and malicious traffic.
Higher-quality survey data
Spam responses can distort insights, waste incentives, and increase the effort required during data cleaning. Preventing automated submissions at the point of entry helps maintain cleaner, more reliable data for analysis.
Seamless security
The new implementation delivers enhanced protection without adding unnecessary friction to the survey-taking experience, striking the right balance between usability and security.
When Should You Use CAPTCHA Questions?
Adding a CAPTCHA question is especially valuable when your survey:
- Is publicly accessible through a shared link
- Offers incentives or rewards
- Is embedded on a website with high visitor traffic
- Collects business-critical or research-sensitive information
- Has previously experienced spam or bot submissions
QuestionPro recommends placing the CAPTCHA question on its own page, typically near the beginning of the survey, to prevent automated respondents from progressing further into the questionnaire. The CAPTCHA question is always validated, ensuring respondents must successfully pass verification before continuing.
How to Add a CAPTCHA Question
Adding a CAPTCHA question takes just a few clicks:
- Open your survey in Edit mode.
- Select Add Question.
- Choose CAPTCHA from the Misc section under Basic Question Types.
- Save your survey.
Once added, QuestionPro automatically inserts a mandatory page break after the CAPTCHA question to ensure proper validation before respondents continue.
A Better Balance Between Security and Usability
Survey security shouldn’t come at the expense of respondent experience. By introducing support for Google reCAPTCHA v3, QuestionPro delivers stronger protection against automated responses while keeping the survey experience smooth and friction-free.
Whether you’re conducting customer feedback surveys, market research, employee engagement studies, or lead generation forms, reCAPTCHA v3 helps ensure your responses come from real people so you can trust the insights that drive your decisions.
