HR has had “a seat at the table” for years now. Sure, many HR functions have failed to rise above its administration and compliance roots. But that’s not necessarily their fault. This is mostly a function of the right people being asked to focus on the wrong stuff. While most of what HR is being asked to respond to is important to the business, it isn’t terribly relevant to actually driving the one thing the C-Suite really wants: Growth. So what needs to shift to HR’s role to become more relevant? It’s time to start redefining the role that your “people people” play and improve employee engagement. It’s time to give them the tools and resources they need. And it’s time to give them ownership and responsibility for leveraging the one and only differentiator you might have: your Culture.
