Survey reporting dashboard in QuestionPro BI: Let AI draft it, or teach it from your existing dashboards

The blank dashboard is the least interesting part of your research. Here is how to skip it. Building a survey reporting dashboard should showcase your insights, not test your patience.

The line item that never makes the project plan

Nobody writes it into the schedule. “Week three: spend a morning deciding what the dashboard should look like.” Yet it happens on almost every study, and it is the slowest part of building a survey reporting dashboard.

Someone opens a blank dashboard and adds a bar chart. Then they wonder if a donut would look better. A widget gets renamed twice. Then comes the hunt for the filter that says “women, 25 to 34,” because someone senior will definitely ask. Meanwhile, the real question- what did people actually say- waits in line.

If you run research for a living, you know this tax. If you don’t, you know it from the receiving end: you asked for results and got a cheerful “almost there.”

Advanced AI dashboard creation in QuestionPro BI is a way around the blank page. When you create an AI dashboard, you decide how much direction to give. Let AI choose the setup from your survey data. Or point it at up to five dashboards your team already trusts and let it follow their lead. Either way, you get a new dashboard to react to, edit, and make your own.

What advanced AI dashboard creation in QuestionPro BI actually is

First, a quick translation. QuestionPro BI is where you turn survey responses into dashboards. A dashboard is one screen that turns those responses into charts your team can read and explore. Advanced AI dashboard creation is the updated way to start one. AI proposes the charts, layout, filters, and comparison groups, and you refine them in the regular dashboard editor.

Two terms are worth knowing. A filter narrows the dashboard to responses that match a condition, such as one region. A data slicer is a named comparison group, such as new customers versus returning ones, that readers can use inside supported widgets.

If you tried the first version, here is what changed. Before, you picked a data source, and AI generated the charts and layout. That is still available as the let AI decide route, and it also creates filters and data slicers, which the first version did not. The new route, learn from existing dashboards, lets you guide the result with up to five dashboards of your own.

Route one: Let AI decide

Choose this when you have fresh data and no template. You select the survey, confirm, and create. There is no prompt to write and no reference dashboard to hunt down. AI picks the dashboard context, layout, widgets, filters, and data slicers on its own.

Picture a program manager at a small nonprofit running her first participant survey. She has never built a dashboard, and no earlier report exists. She lets AI decide. Then she spends her time where it counts. She checks which question each chart uses, confirms the response counts look right, and removes the two widgets her board will not care about. She walks into the meeting with a draft she shaped instead of a blank page she dreaded.

Route two: Learn from existing dashboards

Choose this when your team already has a reporting style worth repeating. You select the new survey, then pick up to five existing dashboards as references. AI learns layout and widget patterns from the first tab of each one, so pick dashboards whose first tab shows the approach you want. You then choose one of those references for the theme, chart palette, and sentiment colors. The look can come from a different dashboard than the layout does.

Consider an insights team at an FMCG brand in the US running a quarterly brand tracker. Wave five has just closed. Instead of rebuilding the usual pages, the analyst selects the new survey. She picks three earlier dashboards as references, with the most recent one as the theme. The new dashboard arrives in familiar shape: same flow, same visual style, wave five numbers. Stakeholders stop asking why the report looks different this quarter.

Agencies get the same lift. A research consultancy delivers similar readouts to several clients. It can point AI at its best past dashboard for each new project. The saved hours go to the findings.

What to check before you share your survey reporting dashboard

A generated dashboard is a starting point, not a signed-off report. Give it five minutes first:

  • Widget questions and chart choices: Does each chart use the question you would have picked?
  • Response counts: Do the numbers match what you expect from the survey?
  • Saved filter conditions: Does each filter select the group its name promises?
  • Slicer questions and answer selections: Do the comparison groups mean what the label says?
  • Visual theme: Does it look like something you would put your name on?

Finish any widget-specific setup the dashboard shows, then share. Learning from references is a guide, not a photocopier. The new dashboard follows your examples, but it will not duplicate every tab or widget of the originals.

Choosing a route, and when to skip both

The rule of thumb is short. No precedent? Let AI decide. Got a report your audience already expects? Learn from existing dashboards.

Skip both routes if you need every widget and every tab reproduced exactly. Skip them if the survey has no responses yet, because there is nothing for AI to work with. And skip the temptation to send the draft out unreviewed. Speed gets you to the draft. Your judgment gets you to the readout.

How to try it in QuestionPro BI

Open your workspace, go to dashboards, and click create dashboard. Name it, choose AI dashboard, and pick a route. Select your survey, check the confirmation screen, and click Create. The help file shows every screen, and the step-by-step walkthrough on the blog covers both routes in detail.

Want the findings in a deck? PowerPoint export turns selected dashboard views into a stakeholder readout.

Frequently asked questions

Is an AI dashboard a finished report?

No. It is a first draft that opens in the regular BI editor. You review the charts, questions, response counts, filters, and slicers, then refine what you need before sharing. AI handles the setup. You handle the judgment.

What is the difference between the first version and the current one?

The first version generated charts and a layout from your selected data. The current version offers two routes. Let AI decide also creates filters and data slicers. Learn from existing dashboards adds up to five reference dashboards and one theme reference. Both routes create a new dashboard you can refine.

Do I need existing dashboards to use it?

No. Let AI decide works from your survey data alone, with no prompt and no reference dashboards. Existing dashboards only matter for the learn route, where up to five of them guide layout and widgets. Starting your very first study? Use the first route.

Will it copy my old dashboard exactly?

No. References guide a new dashboard built on the survey you select. AI learns layout and widget patterns from each reference’s first tab, so it follows your approach without duplicating every tab or widget. If you need an exact copy, build that one by hand.

Which dashboards make good references?

Choose dashboards whose first tab shows the reporting approach you want. Then pick one as the theme reference; it guides the theme, chart palette, and sentiment colors. The theme choice is separate from the layout and widget choices, so you can mix and match.

Can I change the filters and slicers AI creates?

Yes. The dashboard opens in the regular BI editor, where you can inspect widget settings and review the filters and data slicers. Check each name, question, operator, and answer selection before you rely on a segment in a meeting.
