CES in the Scoring Donut widget is calculated using a category-based (Top-box) scoring model. Each response option is mapped to one of three categories: Simple, Neutral, or Complicated. The final CES value is derived from the distribution of responses across these categories (for example, % Simple − % Complicated).
This calculation approach remains consistent across different scale sizes (5-point, 7-point, etc.). The only variation lies in how the scale points are grouped into the three scoring categories.
If your question includes an additional response option such as “No answer” and you do not want it included in the CES calculation, it is recommended to apply a data filter to exclude that response before calculating the score.
