Did you swipe right to find your Valentine?

Love is about to be in the air in a couple of days and people start looking all starry-eyed and enamored, planning their romantic get-aways, dates, dinners! Chocolates, roses, gifts…sometimes it seems, that money can really buy it all. But can it really? Well, these days it might not actually need to. Dating apps are free and all you have to do is start swiping right.

More and more couples meet online or through dating apps, hence, today texting has become not only a means of seduction but the foundation upon which a future might be built. Still sounds a little crazy to me but whatever. Whether a witty repartee is established in those first few messages on Tinder or Bumble, or whichever app suits your needs – that could be the first step to a lasting relationship.

While the whole concept of looking for the right person based just on their physical appearance might be shallow and not for everyone, when Pew Research Center did a national survey, they found that

Online dating service usage among 18- to 24-year-olds has increased nearly threefold since 2013 while usage by 55- to 64-year-olds has doubled

So yes, if you are still have not experienced the world of dating apps – this is the perfect time of the year! Especially, if you’re a lady! There are 119 single men—never married, widowed or divorced—in their 20s for every 100 single women of the same age. Whattt? Yes, that is why when you’re a lady and swipe right, you get a match almost every single time, while guys on average find one match in every 20 swipes. Ladies – you can skip watching Bridget Jones Diary this year, with a tub of Ben and Jerry’s! Just get swiping and you’ll be in for the whole Valentines Day Spiel!

And while you might be new to this and worried of how it may play out – same research states that

What do you have to lose anyways? Meeting new people is always fun, and if it doesn’t work out romantically, you still might get a new friend, or, at least, you will be fed and had some bubbly! And who know, it might turn out to be your Valentine after all.

And it’s kind of magical when it happens: finding someone who gets you over text, where displaying emotions can get hard, and you might get misread. Yet still it’s like the Prince finally finding his Cinderella and the glass slipper fitting her right— except the glass slipper today is the emoji, and Cinderella and Prince have only seen the Profile pictures of each other.

Have fun all, and Happy Valentines Day!
