CX - Import/Add Segments

How do I add segments?

Initially there is one segment added to the account. This segment is referred as Main segment. You can rename it to Headquarters as per your convenience.

If you want to add more segment to the system, it can be done through 3 ways:

  1. Through Add Child option
  2. Import segment: There are two options available to import the segments.
    • Manually Adding Bulk segments
    • Importing through excel file

How to add segment through Add Child option?

Through the Add Child option you can only add one segment at a time.

To do so, you need to Login to Questionpro portal >> Customer Experience >> Business Data >> Segments

  1. Click Segments under Business Data to view the list of segments
  2. Click Add Child under the Action column
  3. Add the below mentioned details of child segment and click Save button.
    • Segment Name - Mandatory
    • Segment Code - Mandatory and needs to be unique
    • Location
    • Address
    • City
    • ZIP Code
    • State
    • Country
    • Supervisor Email Address
  4. The new child segment will be added to the list

How can I bulk add segments?

To add bulk segments, click on Import segments button.

To do so, you need to Login to Questionpro portal >> Customer Experience >> Business Data >> Segment >> Import segments

Manual Bulk Import
  • Click Segments under Business Data to view the list of segments
  • Click the Import segments button
  • Enter the details in the table columns for Manual Bulk Import

  • Click on Import segments button to import the data
Excel Bulk Import
  • Click ‘Segments’ under ‘Business Data’ to view the list of segments
  • Click the ‘Import segments’ button
  • Click on ‘Excel Import’ tab to import segments through excel sheet

  • Click the ‘Segment - Import Template’ for system to prepare the sample template. Click again on the link to download the template
  • Click on ‘Choose file’ button to open file explorer and choose the correct excel file for importing transactions
  • Click ‘Import’ button to process the selected excel file

Can I have an example of Adding a segment?

Refer the below example:

McDonald USA: Let's assume in US McD is in three states - Boston, Atlanta, New York. While settings up their segment hierarchy following needs to be done:

  • McD USA being the Headquarter will be the Main segment with segment code S1. This is a default segment created in the CX account of user. You can rename it through ‘Edit’ link in segment
  • McD Boston, McD Atlanta and McD New York needs to be added under the Main segment as their Parent segment.
  • In the table format, you can enter their details as follows:

  • The segment code for Boston, Atlanta and NY is give S2, S3 and S4 respectively (You can give segment code as per your organization standard. However, it needs to be unique)

If McD Boston has two cities Canon and Medway. Similarly, McD Atlanta has two cities Dallas and Sunny Side. They will be added once you have added Boston:

  • Click on Import segment and in tabular format enter the following details:
  • The segment code for Canon, Medway, Dallas and Sunny Side is set to S5, S6, S7 and S8 respectively

  • For the Canon and Medway, the parent segment will be Boston whereas Dallas and Sunny Side will have Atlanta as their parent segment

The segment hierarchy will look as follows:

The above example was for a 3-Tier business hierarchy. Through manual bulk import, you can only import one level of segments. Hence, to create the above hierarchy we imported segment’s twice through manual import.

If you want to import all segment at one time, you can create a excel file similar to the one shown below and import it.

According to the image, Washington will be imported under McD USA. The segment’s McD Buffalo and McD Albany will be added under McD New York. McD Seattle and McD Olympia will be imported under McD Washington.

The updated hierarchy will look like:

If McD USA opens a new branch in Chicago, you simply click ‘Add Child’ besides McD USA and fill the details as shown below -

If zip code is mentioned while adding the business units, then it will appear in the dashboard.
The Segment code is Case Sensitive. While importing transaction make sure correct segment code is passed.
