Extraction logic

Extraction logic can be used when you want to ask a follow-up question or multiple follow-up questions based on the respondent's selection to a question in your survey.

For example, consider a question in your survey "Please select all smartphone brands that you have used in the past?" with the following answer options:

• Apple
• Samsung
• Google
• Motorola
• OnePlus
• Xiaomi
• LG
• Other

Based on the respondent's answer, you may want to ask follow-up questions for the selected brands. You can set this up easily using Extraction Logic

To set up extraction:

• Go to: Login » Surveys (click on a survey) » Edit.
• Click on Logic for the question from which you wish to extract follow-up questions.

• Select Extraction logic from the drop-down.



• Select which options you want to extract for the follow-up questions.
You can select from the following options:
• Selected Choices: All options selected by respondents will be used in the extracted question.
• Not Selected Choices: All options that are not selected by respondents will be used in the extracted question.
• Displayed Choices: All options that are displayed to the respondent will be extracted.
• Not Displayed Choices: All options that are hidden by show/hide logic and not displayed to the respondent will be extracted.
• All Choices: All choices will be extracted.

• Click on the drop-down next to 'to question type' and select the question type for your follow-up question.

• Click on the Save Extraction Logic button.

The extracted question will appear below the source question. You can add question text for your question.

In this example, respondents will be asked to select all the smartphone brands they have used.

In the follow-up question, only the options selected by the respondents will be displayed.

The extracted question will be added immediately after the source question. If you are extracting multiple questions, the latest extracted question will be immediately after the source question. Once you have extracted questions, you can reorder the questions as per the order you want. Please see the Reorder Questions help article for more details.
