Survey Chaining

Survey chaining can be used to intelligently branch to different surveys depending upon how people respond to certain questions. This can be helpful if you have a complicated set of questions that would make more sense to keep as separate surveys for reporting purposes, or even just to keep logic easy to track. To set up survey chaining, go to:

    • Login »  Surveys »  Edit »   Question's Logic icon
  • Select Skip Logic.
  • From the If selected, jump to drop-down menu select Chain Survey.
  • Survey Software Help Image
Note: Before setting up the chaining, you will have to create all the surveys required to be chained.
  • Type the name of the survey you want to branch to under Chained Survey:.
  • Click Save Question Logic.

Note: When logic is set up for a question, a page break is automatically inserted. This page break is necessary for branching to function properly and cannot be removed.

If I chain from one survey to the other, can the data be automatically be interlinked?

Yes. The response ID of first survey from where the respondent is directed to another survey is passed in as an External Reference variable. This variable is available with the response for the chained survey. Along with the External Reference variable, you can even pass up to 5 custom variables to the chained survey.

Below is the screenshot of the Response Viewer of the chained survey, showing the response ID of the first survey captured as an External Reference variable.
