Numerical Binning is a way to group a number of more or less continuous values into a smaller number of "bins". Creating range or bins will help to understand the numerical data better. For example, if you have data about a group of people, you might want to arrange their ages into a smaller number of age intervals. Creating age bins will further help you to understand the nature of a particular age groups created.
To create a range for a numeric question type
Go to: Workspace » Add Single Row Text »Question’s Settings » Numeric Data » Metadata » Range
Provide a label for the range to be created. Label is just a name given to the range created. It can be numeric or alphabetic. For example, you can create income bins with labels like Low, Medium , High or you can create a age bins with labels like under 18, 18 - 25, 25 - 50. Provide numbers in the start range and end range. Click on Add Range to add a row and create more bins. A Maximum of 7 rows can be added.
Where can I see the histogram?
Once the Range is created in edit survey collect the responses for the survey. Visualization of the range created can be viewed in the Dashboard.Go to: Survey » Analytics » Dashboard
The histogram provides the frequency count of the range created. For example, there are 5 responses which have age between 60-75 range. One can change the range values in edit survey and the histogram will change accordingly.
